March to Close All Slaughterhouses 2019 - Canberra

Slaughterhouses have no place in a compassionate world. 56 BILLION non-human animals are violently slaughtered every YEAR worldwide, not including fishes and other marine life. The extreme suffering and terror these beings experience during their short lives is completely unnecessary and completely unacceptable. Humans do not need to consume animal flesh and secretions to thrive and survive. We are simply continuing this cycle of violence due to years of social conditioning, meat, dairy and egg propaganda and the billions of dollars invested in animal agriculture industries. Consumers have the choice every day when purchasing products. The choice is to support the suffering and death of innocent beings, or not to. It’s important to get active and advocate for the future of non-human animals. They depend on us to educate members of our own species to make informed choices and what the consequences of those choices are.

Thank you to all who joined us in marching for the victims of abattoirs around the world today. Together we are strong and we are creating change. Never be afraid to speak up for the non-human animals who need us. Special thank you to Tilly and Tara for sharing their important messages with us, to Wollemi Ethical Store & Cafe who made delicious free coffee for marchers, to Vegan ACT for providing the free vegan bbq and to Miki for documenting the event!

We meet and work on stolen land and we acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded. We wish to pay our respects to the rightful custodians of this land, and to their elders past, present and emerging.
