While activists from Animal Liberation ACT and Anti-Speciesist Action Collective - Canberra protested the Queanbeyan rodeo, another went inside to get footage. This is what they saw.

Despite the mealy-mouthed signage informing attendees of the “animal welfare policy”, and the constant reassurances of how “well-cared for” the animals were by announcers, the inherent cruelty of tormenting animals for entertainment continued unabated.

The social licence for rodeo is nearly non-existent and the industry knows this. The ACT has already banned the practice, as have numerous overseas countries. Only those forced to believe that human dominance and cruelty are admirable cling on to the spectacle but slowly even some of them may open their eyes.

As always, an enormous thank you to Gareth Gwych Tudor for documenting the rampant and disgusting abuse of animals occurring at rodeos. It is deeply traumatising to witness such callous and cruel treatment, surrounded by crowds baying for more.

This protest forms part of a wider campaign to end the exploitation of animals for entertainment in the region. Please sign and share to help us end this.
